En 2023, la Fondation Abbé Pierre estime à près de 330 000 le nombre de personnes sans-domicile fixe en France. Parmi elles, 27000 seraient des personnes sans-abri : à la différence des personnes sans-domicile fixe, les personnes sans-abri sont celles et ceux qui n'ont pas de toit, qui n'ont rien qui les protège de l'extérieur.

C'est à leur rencontre que part l'équipe de maraude exploratoire du Samu Social de la Croix-Rouge, tous les mercredi soirs. Ils suivent leur état de santé, leur apportent de quoi manger, de l'aide matérielle et un soutien moral. Ils essaient de renouer un lien social souvent très endommagé, parfois perdu.
