Combas est une commune gardoise de 677 habitants (2020), en région Occitanie. C'est un village riche en histoires et son maire, Michel Debouverie, aime en raconter... Il a en effet écrit huit livres depuis qu'il est à la retraite : l'un d'eux fait le récit de jeunes Combassols au coeur d'une enquête (Le Camisard assassiné, Editions L'Harmattan, 2019). Dédié aux habitants, ce roman inspiré de faits réels évoque le bois de Lens et autres lieux du village. Combas est très attachée à son patrimoine : la pierre calcaire, le blason ornant les plaques, les monuments historiques présentés aux voyageurs par diverses signalétiques...

Combas n'est pas passéiste : l'histoire sert de moteur pour l'avenir. Le maire multiplie les initiatives : accueil d'une épicerie éco-responsable, mise en valeur du vieux lavoir Mère de Dieu, création d'un parking avec des stations de recharge pour les voitures électriques, un grand projet de réhabilitation de la vieille cave viticole en espace de coworking, avec magasins et services... 

Michel Debouverie a peut-être trouvé une inspiration dans l'histoire de son grand-père, qui fut maire d'Amiens en 1940, avant d'être envoyé en prison en Allemagne en 1941 du fait de son insoumission à l'occupant (Ce grand-père que je n'ai jamais connu, Librairie Martelle, 2018). Ancien directeur d'usine habitué aux défis, Michel Debouverie s'est proposé comme maire : "personne ne voulait le faire"...

Combas is a village of 677 inhabitants (2020), in the Gard, in the Occitanie region. It is a village rich in stories and its mayor, Michel Debouverie, likes to tell some of them... He has written eight books since he is retired : one of them tells the story of young Combassols at the heart of an investigation (Le Camisard assassiné, Editions L'Harmattan, 2019). Dedicated to the inhabitants, this novel inspired by real facts evokes the wood of "Lens" and other places of the village.

Combas is very attached to its heritage : the limestone, the blazon adorning all the plaques, the historical monuments presented to the passengers by various signs...

But Combas and its mayor Michel Debouverie are not backward-looking : history serves as a springboard for tomorrow. Indeed, the mayor is multiplying the projets : welcoming a local grocery store, development of the old wash house "Mère de Dieu", creation of a new parking lot with outlets for electric cars, a project to rehabilitate the old wine cellar at the entrance of the village into a coworking space, with stores and services...

Michel Debouverie may have found inspiration through the story of his grandfather, who was mayor of Amiens in 1940, before being sent to prison in Germany in 1941 for his issoumission to the German army (Ce grand-pere que je n'ai jamais connu, Librairie Martelle, 2018).

A former factory manager accustomed to challenges, Michel Debouverie proposed himself as mayor when "nobody wanted to do it".
